Phunnel are an essential category in hookah culture. Phunnel bowls feature a central spire that prevents tobacco syrup from leaking into the shaft. This design allows for longer sessions with juicy modern tobaccos and maximum flavor extraction. At Hookahteka.com you’ll find a wide selection of phunnel from top brands including Alpha Hookah, Oblako, Cosmo Bowl, DarkSide, and Werkbund.
When selecting your phunnel, consider your typical session length, tobacco brands you use, and HMD compatibility. Different brands offer different characteristics — some prioritize heat retention, others focus on flavor purity or design aesthetics. Browse the brands in our catalog to find your match.
Our phunnel catalog includes models from Alpha Hookah, Conceptic, Cosmo Bowl, DarkSide, Hooligan, Japona Hookah, Kong, Moon, Oblako, Olymp, Solaris, ST, Telamon, Upgrade Form, Werkbund and HKAN. Each brand brings its own approach to bowl design and material selection.
To keep your phunnel performing well, clean after each session using a soft brush. Don’t expose to thermal shock — let bowls cool before washing. For deep cleaning, use specialized hookah cleaning solutions available in our cleaning supplies section.
All bowls ship from our Warsaw warehouse with careful packaging. Browse our complete range of hookahs, charcoal and tobacco for a complete setup.
A phunnel has a central spike rising from the floor. Air passes through that channel, and molasses pools at the bottom of the bowl with nowhere to drain. That solves the single most frustrating problem of classic Turkish bowls: juice dripping into the stem. The result is longer sessions with consistent flavor through the whole burn. For wet dark leaf blends, the difference is immediate. Once you've smoked dark leaf in a phunnel, going back to a Turkish bowl feels like a downgrade for that specific use case.
Phunnels are built for high-molasses blends. DarkSide, Must H, Fumelo, and similar dark leaf or wet-style tobaccos sit perfectly in a phunnel because the bowl keeps every drop of juice in contact with the tobacco for the full session. Smoke stays denser longer. With dry, low-molasses blends, the phunnel offers no real advantage. A classic Turkish bowl handles those just as well or better. Match the bowl shape to the tobacco, not the other way around.
Small holds about 8 to 12 g of tobacco, enough for 30 to 40 minute sessions. Medium runs 15 to 20 g and gives you the standard 45 to 60 minutes. XL at 25 to 35 g is a group bowl, sessions over an hour. Mismatched sizing is where people go wrong. A small bowl with too many coals overheats the pack, a large bowl with too little tobacco gives weak smoke. Medium covers around 80 percent of real-world use cases. Start there if you're not sure.
