Brand

Premium hookah charcoal is essential for the perfect smoking session. At Hookahteka.com, we stock natural coconut coals from trusted manufacturers in standard sizes 25mm and 26mm. Our charcoal burns long, produces minimal ash, and delivers consistent heat for optimal tobacco flavor.

Why coconut charcoal?

  • Natural product — no chemical accelerants, made from coconut shells.
  • Long burn time — typically 60-90 minutes per piece.
  • Low ash production — clean sessions with minimal mess.
  • Stable heat — even temperature throughout the session.
  • No off-flavors — pure heat without affecting tobacco taste.

25mm vs 26mm — what’s the difference?

The size you choose depends on your bowl size and HMD. 26mm coals are slightly larger and produce more heat — ideal for larger phunnel bowls and overpack styles. 25mm coals are the more universal standard size, fitting most HMDs and bowls perfectly. Both sizes deliver excellent performance.

How to light hookah charcoal

Frequently asked questions

What's the best shisha charcoal: coconut or self-igniting?

Natural coconut charcoal is the only one we recommend. It burns evenly for 60 to 90 minutes, has no odor of its own, and doesn't taint the tobacco flavor. Self-igniting coals contain saltpeter, which is harmful to your health, strongly affects the taste and aroma of the tobacco, burns out faster, and ends up more expensive per session once you factor in how quickly you go through it. The convenience of self-igniting coals isn't worth the trade-off on any single front.

How do I light shisha charcoal properly?

Coconut shisha coals work best on an electric coal burner. Set them down, give it 8 to 12 minutes, and rotate regularly until the entire surface is covered in an even gray ash layer. A gas stove works too, but it needs more attention because the heat isn't as uniform. Never use partially lit coals: they release carbon monoxide, which directly hurts how you feel during the session and isn't worth the time you saved by rushing. If the coal isn't gray all over, it isn't ready.

How many coals do I need for one session?

For a standard 45 to 60 minute session, three cubes of coconut charcoal are enough. The most common sizes are 25x25x25 mm and 26x26x26 mm. Heat the bowl on three coals, then drop back to two for the body of the session, and use the third one to regulate temperature: add it back when the draw weakens or the smoke thins out. With an HMD on top, the heat distributes more evenly, which makes it easier to hold the right temperature without constantly rearranging coals on the bowl.
